MBMR are a Brighton based band currently releasing through DIY label Nice Weather For Airstrikes. Formed in late 2006, ‘Monsters Build Mean Robots’ have created a unique and multi-influenced sound.
The release of their debut in 2007 saw them mix electronic loops and beats with layered guitar, organ and vocal parts. Creating an epic, slow build form of Post-Rock, they gained local and national recognition through the likes of Stuart Maconie and Artrocker magazine. Since the album release the band have been touring the UK and working on the live performance, evolving their sound to incorporate more instruments, including live drums, bass, cello and violin. This adds to the textured and looped guitar parts that are integral to the MBMR sound. The vocals have progressed from layered and accompanying sounds – prominent in the first album – to melodic, harmonious centre points, with strong and structured lyrical themes.
The new single ‘Psalm 57 (or) All That Gold Did Not Help Your Soul!’ has been mastered by Ace of come-back rockers Skunk Anansie was available for a limited time only at niceweatherforairstrikes.co.uk as a free download. The official full UK digital release for the single will be Monday 1st of February and will include the exclusive B-side “The Witches and The Liars”. This single begins the build up to the bands second album, a more organic and band centred conceptual album, that the band have already begun working on. Based primarily on the songs played live, the album sees the band step away from their electronic roots and focus on more song based structures with heavy lyrical themes.
