Fact: Comedy is the new rock n’ roll. Fact: We all like to say “I saw them before they were famous!” Fact: Comic Boom gives you the chance to see the acts you might not know… but need to know… before they hit the big time and go stellar! Featuring the rising stars of tomorrow’s comedy, Comic Boom presents the best breaking acts – those on the very threshold of stardom – alongside an established headlining comedian at Komedia on a monthly basis.
With Brighton’s own legendary Seann Walsh as compère, described as “this generation’s Dylan Moran” by Time Out and winner of Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards 2009, this fast-paced quality show is on Thursday 28 January and runs every last Thursday of the month.
“A chilled-out, multiple-chuckle worthy night out. Make sure you catch the next one” – Latest 7
Comic Boom is a unique concept and the brainchild of the UK’s leading comedy coach Jill Edwards, who has coached some of Britain’s top comics over the last fourteen years, including Jimmy Carr and Shazia Mirza. The idea behind the night is to give breaking hot new comic talent from across the country a platform to perform in front of audiences they might not necessarily be able to achieve at smaller clubs on the new act comedy circuit. Each night also features an established headlining act alongside the less known acts – January sees Ginger and Black take the headline slot.
Ginger and Black are back! She’s ginger, sings and plays the guitar like proper Celtic-tinged singer-songwriter; he’s black and a natural clown. Already one of the most talked about new double-acts on the circuit, Eri Jackson and Daniel Taylor bring their musical comedy to Komedia, having crafted some great lyrics, from an Eminem-style rap from the point of view of a wannabe TV runner, aching with needy desperation, to the hilarious Grandfather In A Coma.
Since December 2005, Ginger and Black have taken their dark brand of musical comedy all over the country, including gigs at Jongleurs, Up the Creek and Amused Moose. They’ve performed in Edinburgh, gained finalist places in both So You Think You’re Funny? awards and the Amused Moose Laugh-Off 2006 as well as a Best Newcomer nomination in the 2007 Chortle Awards. As well as late-night appearances on E4 and BBC Three, they supported Simon Amstell on tour last year.
COMIC BOOM visits Komedia Brighton on Thursday 28 January at 8pm. Tickets are £16.50 (meal deal) / £8.50 / £6.50 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
