Russell Kane’s presents Fakespeare: The Tragickal Saveings Of King Nigel @ KOMEDIA

Russell Kane is a rare type of comic, if not one of the rarest.  Most comedians have a a great grasp of knowledge, intellect, and the likes but Kane has something more.  At last years Edinburgh Fringe Festival he brought two shows, the first (more mass audience) was Human Dressage which we got to see and which went down a treat, and his second was Fakespeare: The Tragickal Saveings Of King Nigel.

If you wanting to get an idea of what this show is about Kane gives a little introduction to the show and will tell you why he decided to write a Shakespearian Style play based in Essex, the resulting show is not only warm and incredible well crafted, but one of the most creative uses of talent seen a the Fringe 2009.

RUSSELL KANE’s FAKESPEARE visits Komedia Brighton on Sunday 28 February at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12/£10 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.

1st Half
Mont Blanc Speed Flying
Kranked: Revolve
Solo

MONT BLANC SPEED FLYING
A beautifully shot film that features six speed riders descending thousands of metres from the upper slopes of Mont Blanc down the broken but spectacular mountainside to Chamonix in one continuous 10-minute shot. The mesmerizing, panoramic views shot from above create an incredible awe inspiring experience. The poetic soundtrack further enhances the visually spectacular piece that makes it an incredible and uplifting film.

KRANKED REVOLVE
A high definition tribute to the mountain bike, and a look at the riders who push these machines to their limits. Featuring some of the planet’s best riders, “Revolve” blasts in cinematic glory from the French Alps to the lush coast of British Columbia, incorporating dirt jump, trail, freeride, slopestyle and downhill riding. A high energy experience!

SOLO
On January 11, 2007, Andrew McAuley set out on his quest to become the first person to kayak from Australia to New Zealand across 1600 kilometres of one of the wildest and loneliest stretches of ocean on Earth. Thirty days later, New Zealand maritime authorities received his distress call. An amazing and compelling story that will not leave you untouched, Solo is an incredible tale of adventure. Through Andrew’s story the film questions and examines the extreme risk that some adventurers are driven to pursue.

WILFREDO @ Komedia Sunday 14 February 2010

Wilfredo, “The Boy From Granada” is breaking the British market at long last, with an inimitable stage presence and a voice which slides with ease between deep melancholia and a full-belt projection.

Nothing, but NOTHING should get in your way from seeing this act, Wilfredo is simply without peer and if he doesn’t astound you with his incredible show The New Current will gladly refund your ticket prices*.  He has already been confirmed for Glastonbury this year and is truly on a trailblazing path and is bound to set the venues in the UK a light with his show!  Whatever you do DON’T miss this show!

“Musical character comedy at its most disturbing – but compelling, hilarious stuff.” LondonTown.com

The apotheosis of the lounge singer, Wilfredo is currently causing a frenzy of excitement on the UK festival circuit. Recent successes have included winning critical and public acclaim at this years Glastonbury Festival, and playing to several hundred ecstatic, muddy festival-goers at Maker Sunshine 2008.

Grotesque, wicked, crude and deluded, he secretes a warmth which enables him, quite simply, to get away with first-degree murder. His interpretations of English-language popular songs – ranging from the Rolling Stones to Amy Winehouse – are winning him countless fans and a particularly large following of female admirers.

“A nice mix of innocence and aggression, of the unexpected and the truly odd.” Martin Freeman

In his native Andalucia, Wilfredo is known as El Niño de Granada (‘The Boy From Granada’) where – in 1977 – he was propelled to messiah-like status, having survived an assassination attempt at the Benidorm International Song Contest. Julio Iglesias has always strongly denied any involvement in the incident. Known throughout the Latin-American market as an outstanding performer of contemporary popular song, his multi-platinum best-selling albums include El Chico En El Toro (The Boy on the Bull); Sólo Para Las Damas (Only For The Ladies); and Julio Ni Siquiera Pueden Cantar Como Yo (Not Even Julio Can Sing Like This).

Wilfredo is supported in concert by his magnificent five-piece band.

WILFREDO visits Komedia Brighton on Sunday 14 February at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7/£5 available on-line at komedia or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.

*You know we wont refund your tickets so don’t email me again! But you will love him to bits.

‘Dead Famous ACT ONE Starring’:

★★★ THE CORRESPONDENTS! ★★★

What do you get when you mix big bad-arse 1930s swing beats with Hip Hop? Well you get no other than The Correspondents, MC Mr Bruce & Producer/DJ Mr Chuckles, bring you the sounds from the 1930s with the flavour of now making them one of the most original musical duos you’r likely to see.  Having honed their skills up North in Leeds and Edinburgh the guys returned to London in 2007 with a mission…and boy have they succeeded.

And they have worked with the likes of our very favourite VV Brown, Cuban Brothers & Ms Florence and the Machine.

But why take our word for it, this is what NME had to say about the guys:

“The Correspondents aren’t the first group you’d expect to see at a South London dubstep/fidget house night and yet their performance at Corsica Studios over a year ago had everyone quickly switching their allegience from wobbly basslines to beats over samples from ‘The Jungle Book’. The skin-tight trouser clad MC Mr Bruce strode to the stage and began shaking his impossibly long legs to the beats put down by his DJ, Chuckles, and from that point on, everyone was a convert.” NME.COM

For more information on The Correspondents you can have a look at their Myspace HERE & if you can’t wait till the 22nd January you can buy their MUSIC HERE.

★★★ MICHAEL JACKSON! (A Tribute) ★★★

This will be a whole hour of swan-songs from one of the world’s best Michael Jackson tribute artists, and we are really lucky to be having him be part of this event.  2009 will be the year many people who have followed and loved the worlds most famous pop musician saw a tragic end to an incredible performer.  Tonight though we celebrate, dance, and enjoy the music from the artist who has, and continues to, be such a musical inspiration.

And With…

★★★ REEPS ONE! ★★★

To say that Reeps One is a Beatbox Champion only tells a quarter of the story.  In 2008 he came 2nd place in the Vauxhall UK Beatbox Championship and in 2009 he became their Champion. Hailing from London Reeps One’s rise as been steady and a simple google search will illistrate how big and respected this guy has become.

He has supported AKON, Chris Brown, Estelle, De La Sol, Roots Manuva & Rusko amongst others. Reeps One’s inclusion on this nights bill is just another reason why you simply have to come and show this guy some love.  I have an enormous amount of time and respect for Reeps One and think that five minutes in his presence will blow your mind, this guy is gifted and inspiring!

You can find out more information on his Myspace HERE.
