Following hard on the heels of 2008's Lie Down In The Light, Beware is Will Oldham's alter-ego Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's eighth solo album. It is – unsurprisingly – an organic work of great depth and texture. The melody and sense of acute longing that has infused Oldham's work since his earliest days with Palace is very much present and correct. Beware is an intimate album, full of strong emotion and underlying hope.

Doing what we do (as always seems to be the case) means we get to come across artists who help us understand the real direction music is heading in. With so much 'new' music hitting the airwaves very few genuine acts seem to get an equal enough chance at getting what they are doing & saying out there to the wider masses. And then comes Darla Farmer who, along with Emanuel and the Fear & Skint and Demoralised, are helping redefine the boundries of popular music in a way never done before.

Yo Majesty Futuristically Speaking... Never Be Afraid: 2008. Ready your ears, if you can, for the mind-blowing, astounding, sonic boom that is Yo Majesty's first full release. This Florida duo takes the attitude of Kelis, mixes it with M.I.A. and Missy and takes it to the limit… before pushing right through it.

One of the first albums we got sent for this new season of reviews on The-Current was by Moon Cresta from Vigo-Nigran, Spain. Their 1st album eROCKtile dysFUNKtion SOULutions is a complex and loving funk infused offering with genuine elements of rock. Of all the music you get to hear Moon Cresta are a band who demand respect for the music they have made here! 'eROCKtile dysFUNKtion SOULutions' is more than a unique album it is a musical talent and understanding of funk and rock and has maturity that few albums today show.

To understand the romantic sweep and swaggering musical ambition that define Bruce Springsteen's first album of the Obama era, you have to go all the way back to an artifact of the Ford administration: 1975's Born to Run. In those days, Springsteen was driving the E Street Band without a seat belt, staying up all night piling on overdubs: glockenspiel, surf guitar, violins, motorcycle noises.
