Preview: Legendary Musician Bob Mould Comes to Brighton

There are some musicians that you simply have to see to believe and they don’t get much more exciting and unbelievable than Bob Mould.  The musicians, who has been part of Hüsker Dü in the 1980s and Sugar in the 1990s is going to be at C2 this coming Wednesday 9th December plus Retribution Gospel Choir.

The sound that this make makes is going to be a real treat for fans who have followed his music and career and I know for sure that the acoustics that C2 has is going to make the whole night truly an event to remember.  This tour is in support of his latest studio album ‘Life and Times’ and having a sneaky peak at the album all I can say is that I would put this on your xmas gift list (you listening Scott)!

Tom Brosseau adds another show to his UK dates 2009

You know when you have seen something rather special when you are sat on a field in the middle of the UK countryside looking up at one of America’s best and brightest singer/songwriters.  And that’s just what we got when we where at Big Chill this year and got to witness Tom Brosseau live.

It’s fair to say that nothing really prepares you for listening to him live and listen you will.  His voice is beauty itself and the music he has created to as wild, crazy, creative, and wonderous as only great music can be.  I know we’re not being as unbias as we probably should do but I loved seeing him live and think his music is incredible.

What they say:

‘Tom Brosseau’s third full-length, Posthumous Success, marks a huge stylistic shift away from the spare, acoustic arrangements of his previous releases, notably 2007‘s Cavalier, produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Eels). During spring, summer and fall of 2008, Brosseau worked with two producers and a handful of guest musicians to flesh and clothe his songs’ sturdy skeletons, lending them breath, presence, and limb- stretching immediacy. His dense musical and personal histories, yielding the delicacy and tenderness of ‘Posthumous Success’, have helped him create an album of great beauty, stillness, intimacy and celebration, and an album that will undoubtedly contribute to 2009’s already-exciting musical canon. He’s toured with PJ Harvey and John Parish, writes songs referencing Vincent Price, appeared in the documentary film Largo (with Flight of the Conchords & more), records and performs with classical violinist Hilary Hahn, interviewed Miranda July, and made a fan of Natalie Portman who chose his song “Plaid Lined Jacket” for a compilation she curated.

There is little more we can add to this except  take some time out to have a look at this guy, listen to his myspace and be happily suprised at how down to earth a musician he is, and then realise you have been given a great insight into the mind of one of the US best kept secrets.

Wild Beasts UK Tour Dates and New Single Announced

An ode to ‘Girls from Rodean, girls from Shipley, girls from Hounslow, girls from Whitby’, All The King’s Men is one from the dead-eyed to the doe-eyed, featuring a decadent tenor from Tom Fleming who takes the reins on lead vocals. Layers of swaying keyboards from Hayden Thorpe, crystalline guitars from Benny Little and a rutting tom-tom from Chris Talbot create the songs’ cascading, sinuous groove. ‘Watch me, watch me!’

All The King’s Men, released on October 5th 2009, is the infectious second single and a real stand out track from Wild Beasts’ exceptional album, Two Dancers.

What the critics are saying:

NME (9/10 – lead review) - “This beautiful album is a treasure that deserves plundering”

Uncut (4*- a lead review) – ‘…the gleaming possibilities that The Smiths opened up for British guitar bands [.] feel like they’ve found a new champion…’
