The Emperor’s Quest is a children’s musical that follows the tale of Ling, a green-fingered girl, and a task that has been set upon her and the rest of the land by the Emperor in order to find his successor. Featuring Oriental instrumentation, the modest music is paired with catchy songs, suitable for all ages. Although this is primarily a kids show, there are things to keep the parents entertained – from the bossy, businessman dad to the doting mother; all characters we can relate to in some way.
They even threw in some crowd interaction, getting the audience to join in part of a song, saying the words ‘come on in’ in a variety of languages. Music ranged from heartfelt numbers from Ling, to group performances involving the whole cast. The story has an nice overall moral message to it, and it’s portrayed in a fun and lighthearted way. Kids and adults alike will be entertained, and something worth taking the kids along to.
