Two British soldiers have been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The two fallen heros, who have not been named as yet, come from The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, were on patrol near Sangin, in Helmand province when the explosion took place.
The MoD has said their families had been informed on Sunday.
The war in Afghanistan as seen a total of 255 UK personnel killed since 2001 - this, the BBC reports, is the same number as were killed during the 1982 Falklands War. These two deaths come on the heals of former PM Tony Blair stating in the Iraq inquiry that her would, if he had the chance, do it all over again. At what point do we continue to let our hero die in a conflict that we can not win?
Lt Col David Wakefield, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: “They were on a foot patrol bringing security to local people near Patrol Base Wishtan when the explosion caught them.
“Two of our comrades have been cruelly taken from us, but their bravery and fortitude will not be forgotten.”
