Festival News 2010: Happy Mondays to Headline WYCHWOOD FESTIVAL

Wychwood Festival, one of the UK’s leading boutique-family friendly festivals is has announce that legendary Salford band the Happy Mondays have been confirmed as their Saturday headliner at this years festival.

2010 sees Wychwood celebrate their 6th year and things seem to be going from good to great and Time Out magazine has described the Wychwood Festival as “an excellent hybrid of The Big Chill, WOMAD and The Cambridge Folk Festival”.

The festival takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse from the 4-6 June and Wychwood’s Saturday ‘Independent Stage’ line-up is a traditionally indie/alternative affair and with the Happy Mondays heading the bill in 2010 that tradition is set to continue with a vengeance!

The Happy Monday’s have seen three ‘incarnations’ since they where formed in Manchester in the 1980s and they have pretty much remained close to their alternative northern roots.  And the festival gets the band after a successful tour in the US in 2009.  few bands have had the staying power as the Monday’s and it’s going to be a truly unique opportunity to see an amazing British Band.  They where one of the defining bands of the 80s with people like the late Richard Wilson championing their unique place in British music and their influence is still felt today!
