Oprah’s “Precious” Wins at Toronto Film Festival 2009

A new film that was produced by daytime talk show host and media bareness Oprah Winfrey has won the 2009 Toronto Film Festival award for best film. The movie, based in 1980′s Harlem tells the story of teenage ‘Precious’ as she tries to deal with the harshness of life at home, an abusive stepfather and a even more abusive mother:

The movie was produced by Oprah and comic of the moment Tyler Perry and made some heavy waves last year art the Sundance Film Festival where it won awards and plaudits for one of its stars Mariah Carey. The film also stars Lenny Kravitz, Mo’nique, and Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe in the title role.

This is bound to get some Oscar attention not least because of Oprah’s name being attached to it but because Carey’s and Sidibe’s performances are spellbinding. Carey has made up for Glitter and then some.
